Ob la di, Ob La Da: Rules for my Life
- June 17th, 2009 12:19 am
I saw a great post at Avitable’s. It was a Rules for Life post. I liked it so much that I decided to rip it off and do mine own. Although, you should also go over read his, because they are quite good.
In general, this post is a list of rules that I apply for my life. It doesn’t mean I think you should apply them to yours. I think you should apply your own, if you were wondering.
Anyway:
1.) TV does not rot your brain. If someone says it does, they aren’t watching enough.
2.) If someone/life gives you lemons, cut them in half and squirt them in their eyes. Lemons make awesome weapons.
3.) While you should respect your elders, you should not respect elderly assholes.
4.) Ignore anyone that says you can not or will not do something. Unless it’s a law, then it is generally best to follow.
5.) If someone goes on about a subject for too long, direct the conversation to poop. They will either shut up or find a new subject.
6.) Never have too much to drink without knowing where you will sleep, how you will get there, who you will be with, etc.
7.) There is no room in my life for toxic friends or people without a sense of humor. I know way too many funny and caring people to waste time on those who don’t or can’t.
8.) If you can’t love someone, don’t pretend like you can.
9.) When the going gets tough, crying is allowed. not publicly, but still, it is allowed.
10.) Be nice to stupid people. They really just have no idea.
11.) Avoid one way friendships.
12.) There are different sorts of friends: friends you can cry with, friends you can get smashed with, friends that make you laugh so hard your lungs ache, friends you can have serious talks with. Finding a friend that possesses all of those qualities is golden.
13.) I know this is a chintzy, overused, myspace glittery statement that teenage girls put in each others comments but: Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.
14.) love rather than fight.
15.) If all else fails, call mom. At the end of the day, my mom is always right.
16.) Embrace the unique, unless, of course, the unique smells funky. Do not embrace funky smells.
17.) Love hard and sleep well.
(You should do one of these. Either in the comments or on your own blog, either way, send me the link. I love reading the rules that people apply in life.)

Very enjoyable. I will work on my list. We will have items in common.
Hubby and I were just talking about #11. We find ourselves in situations where we are doing all the work to maintain some semblance of a “friendship” with people we don’t see often and how frustrated we are with the situation.

@ReformingGeek,
Yes, I am currently trying to weed out one way friendships. I have so many right now. It is quite frustrating.

#7 and #11 are very good rules to live by.
Well they all are actually but those 2 I really like.
And #16. Absolutely do not embrace funky smells.

I love this! Unfortunately, #7 and #15 are in direct conflict for me.
However, if I sub in “mom-in-law” for “mom”, #15 is my favourite of your rules.

Never worry about the small stuff…in the end you won’t remember why you were so worried!
Never forget those who matter…unless of course it is an honest mistake you can make up to them in a HUGE way!
Always be there for your friends, and those friends should also be there for you!
I love your rules, my mom isn’t always right though! LOL!

Love them! LOVE LOVE LOVE!
1) Don’t sweat the petty things, never pet the sweaty things…unless the sweaty things belong to your husband…then ask him to shower first.
Jeans can be wore more than once before washing, and it’s really okay.
2) When one child is screaming bloody murder, and the other is laughing his butt off…odds are, he did it.
3) Say I Love you.
4) If you have nothing else but Hamburger meat, a can of corn, some Velveeta, and a can of tomatoes…throw it in a pot and make a meal.
5) The house doesn’t have to be Martha Stewart clean, as long as the kids are happy.
6) Forrest Gump had it right…Life Really is like a box of chocolates…and I’ve requested that mine all have nuts.
7) Don’t just have friends, be one.
9) Sing. Sing often, and loudly, and when the person in the car next to you looks at you like you’re one step away from the loony bin, just keep singing.
10) Use your imagination.
11) It’s okay to let the kids do silly things, they could be doing so much worse.
12) Be thankful. Never think your life could get worse, it can. Never think it’s the happiest day of your life; tomorrow may just surprise you.
13) Wish yourself a happy birthday, even if no one else does!
__Enjoy!

Does anyone still use the word ‘biting’ as in style-biting and as above, blog-biting? If not, we need to bring it back!
