In cental California there are two things that I said growing up that no one says in SoCal. Oakies for one (in reference to those brought here from Oaklahoma during the dust bowl) and it was not a compliment. It usually refers to white trash (that's me!). I may have to write a whole blog post on this. I live in Chicago now and it's all about food: Chicago pizza and Chicago hot dogs. In Minneapolis, where I grew up, we had hot dish (casserole) and duck, duck, grey duck (goose) and bars (like brownies but different kinds, like lemons bars, peanut butter bars, etc). Well, we're a Pop area here - but here's the thing. In Michigan, there is NO other ginger ale but Vernors. And Faygo red pop is the only Faygo worth drinking. NO mass transit.
