Did You Write that about Me?
- October 1st, 2008 6:16 pm
When you first tell anyone that you write, no matter what it is that you write, I think they often wonder if you write about them. It’s only human nature to sometimes wonder if you are the focus of a certain idea or thought, both written and spoken. It’s just curiosity.
If you write fiction, they wonder if characters are based on them. Who is this character? When in reality, the character is just the character. A complete figment of your imagination. Perhaps portions of the character were inspired by people you know, but to you they are the person you created, not an impostor that looks good , yet slightly different,on paper.
If you write a blog, you might have family and friends that wonder when and if you are going to write about them. If you rant about a random topic, they wonder if they are the focus. If you act stressed out, the same occurs. It’s very interesting to observe.
When I first told my husband about my blog, he had one question. Do you write about me? How often do you write about me? What do you say ABOUT ME?
You’ll just have to read, I told him. He did, and he still does. Which is why the following conversation regarding my last post occurred last night:
“I saw on your blog where you wrote about kissing boys,” said Adam while standing in the middle of our kitchen.
“I didn’t write about kissing boys. I wrote about kissing A BOY. A horrible kiss at that.”
“Whatever. You definitely wrote about making out with boys,” he replied jokingly.
“Are you jealous or something,” I asked.
“NO,” he shot back in the tone of a envious 5th grade boy, facial expression to match.
It’s nice to know he is keeping up with his reading.

I purposely write shit about my husband so that he feels compelled to read. If he ever actually commented… I’d faint in amazement.
In my case, the blog is a weapon when it comes to our relationship. “Oh, I’m sorry? What did you just say?” And then I get the groan and a reply, “Is this going to be on your blog?” Keeps ‘em straight…

Yes, sometimes I wish people I know did not read my blog! I sometimes find it incredibly hard to talk about them when they know.
I feel guilty for a second…and then all is good!!
Nice to see you still got ‘the touch’!

there was a period where I was writing a LOT of erotica, 2-3 page short stories. Mostly it was a challenge from a friend–she said a man can’t write erotica that would keep a woman’s attention. As I started sharing the stories with other female friends, the challenge kicked up a notch–could i write a story that would not only hold a woman’s imagination, but would also have more than one person ask me, “were you thinking of me when you wrote that?”

heh, I’m an English & Creative Writing major and no one has ever asked if I wrote about them. Boyfriends always seem really concerned when I mention I have a blog though.

I always find it interesting when the hub reads my blog…he doesn’t do it on a regular basis, but when he does and picks up on the little things I don’t say out loud to him and responds with just what I need…sometimes it’s just incredible.

Because my hubs lives in a whole other state, he reads the blog like any other person out there. He often reads before we speak at night so he knows what’s going on. It’s sort of sad to know that any one of you can know about a highlight of my day before he does.

I think my mom is the only one that knows about my blog but she doesn’t know my current domain, I changed it when I broke up with my ex (who knew it). I wasn’t a religious blogger for a while so it wasn’t a big deal. I actually prefer my “real life” friends don’t know and because of that I try and keep most of my Flickr pictures friends only and I use their initials if I refer to them in posts– because if I don’t want them to know then its not fair to talk about them in detail.

My hubs reads but I HATE it! It plays into my overwhelmingly awkward self. When he’s an ass and brings something up that he would only know from reading I usually lose my shit cause I’m embarrassed and weird like that! He however thinks that’s great ’cause he’s totally into seeing me squirm.

I don’t telling my husband that I write about him would make him want to read my blog. He has only ever read Harry Potter and the likes so he would never get into something like a blog. I did however make the mistake of telling my mom about my blog. Now she reads mine and my two hostees. I don’t think they appreciated that.

I had a website when my son was a baby that just gave updates on how we were doing. it was mainly for family in other states but every entry that mentioned a friend or family member, someone felt “left out”. Now my blog is my own little thing and if they find it, wonderful. I’m not advertising this time!

Hah! Is he jealoussss much?
Anyway — yes, I completely get you on the blog thing. I think you’re brave enough to write about people on your blog who actually read it. If I’m mad at my sister or my best friends, I have to keep it inside because I don’t want them to read about it even if would make me feel better to get it off my chest.
And I always base characters/speaker of poems off of people I know. It makes them so much more realistic, don’t you think?
October 2nd, 2008 @ 11:04 am
My whatever he is knows I have one, but to my knowledge has never read it; probably a good thing. I used to have one fmaily member who read it, but I had to ask her to stop making snide comments about other commenters and she got mad and quit reading. I don’t care who else reads it, really.

My hubby has stopped reading my blog (I think, anyway) because he didn’t like something I wrote about him. I can’t even remember what it was. I thought I was complimenting him but I guess not. He gets so pissy sometimes.
