Sorry folks…fanny packs are still a necessity for die hard shoppers. They are not just for tourists. I take my great niece to the mall and I like to be able to hold her hand as she is only 5. It beats putting a kid on a leash and dragging them around like a dog.

I didn’t know they still made them! Gaaa…my mom used to make me where one when I was too little to carry a purse with out losing it. Ugh, I hated so much…even then (when I had no sense of fashion whatsoever) I knew that fanny packs were NOT cool.

Bit late on this – we used to call them “bumbags” but then, what we call a fanny over here is less polite that a bum.

I hated them first time around – luckily have avoided them so far until here this century…

Hey I just linked into you from Dooce and I just read that entire post with the dumbest smile on my face. Took the thoughts right out of my head. I feel like I see people with fanny packs on and I just stare at them…waiting for them to reach in for a neccessity. I don’t get it. And I’m so glad you drew attention to this problem. And I love the mullet comparison.
