The Cotton Panty Eviction
- June 3rd, 2008 10:48 pm
A lot of people are probably busying writing posts fueled by political guise, but here at Shamelessly Sassy I have an issue that is much heavier to weigh in on:
Today, I actually climbed out of my yoga pants and into blue jeans. (Can anyone say miracle?) While doing so, my daughter chimed in, ‘Hey mom! We have the same panties.” What? I thought, looking down. The same panties as my three year old? Surely not. But I was wrong, ours were very similar. Both cotton and adorned with pink flowers and a nice elastic waistband with the brand stamped on it. (I love you Hanes and Fruit of the Loom. Love you!)
So I am here to confess this: I sport cotton panties. The same style cotton panties that my three year old wears sans the Disney Princesses or Dora. But I can’t promise that if I didn’t see day of the week panties in my size, I wouldn’t buy them. Because I totally would. I would even wear them on the correct days of the week.
Anyway…
Truthfully, I’m a bit plagued by this. Perhaps I should graduate to something grown up? Something sexier? Something less three year oldish? Or not.
To beat it all, I’m also sure that my grandmother used to wear a similar style of panties. Except hers were silky and much taller, or at least they always looked that way when she had them hanging on the line to dry. And this line of thought alone led to me to a crossroads of sort where I couldn’t decide if my panties were granny panties or children’s panties. Either way, I think it’s time for a graduation, more over an eviction of the cotton panties.
(By the way, I tried to find a visual aid online about granny panties. But they were all pretty perverse, because apparently people have fetishes for them.)
The problem with the eviction is that I’m not sure if I’m ready to branch out to new panties. The idea of a thong sort of makes me itch. I feel like I would also be doing an eviction of the thong–from my crack every five minutes. Maybe I should try something nice with lace on it. Maybe I should try anything that isn’t cotton. (But cotton is so awesome.)
I guess I could ask my husband’s opinion, but he’s probably too busy worrying about the fact that I’m talking to the internet about my panties in the first place. And who can blame him?
So this is the verdict: In the future, I might possibly branch out to try new panties that are not similar to my three year old’s.
What kind of underwear/panties/drawers are you wearing? And have you recently upgraded your taste to something that is not like that of a child or septuagenarian? I need some opinions.
PS. I am totally kidding about my style of underwear being more important than politics….sort of.

I am totally doing a panty post RIGHT NOW!!!
I am telling you girl, stay with the cotton panties. I did the whole sexy lacy thing and it is not um, healthy, to be wrapping your girly bits in that kinda shit all the time.
I still have my pretties, but most of the time it is cotton. Or commando.

Cotton *underwear* are the bomb, yo! Hee.
I used to wear a silky/satiney looking kind from VS. They held in stuff real well and were super comfy. (Doesn’t sound possible, right?) They also didn’t stick to my clothes like my cotton undies do.

I’m comfy with cotton panties. And those that has nice prints and candy stripes! I feel uncomfy with silk panties as it makes me itchy.
I mean I don’t really mind wearing cotton panties, as long as it’s good to wear–then I’ll still wear it. Well unless I’ve got the budget for really expensive and pretty ones, then that would be the time I’ll call for a change in style.

I’m figuring as long as they are bikini and don’t have cartoon characters emblazoned on them, you should be good. Silky panties spend to much time in places where they don’t belong. And me . . . pulling them out.

Thongs make me pick at my butt all day, and I’m told that’s not so attractive (surprisingly enough). I just need to buy new pairs that do not look as old as mine are. my ginch is totally dependent on my pants and who’s going to see me in them. that being said, i spend about 75% of my privates-covered time in microfibre, stretchy, seam-free, ultra low rise full butts. i don’t have one - a butt - so i find these don’t enhance that and yet, kind still make it look like cameron diaz’s in the dancing scene from charlie angels. otherwise - microfibre thongs. also ultra low rise.
mostly cuz all of my pants are low rise or too big

Well, though I do own thongs and I do own Fruit of Looms, I go for a really thin, seamless cotton panty that doesn’t ride up. I buy them at the Canadian equivalently of Victoria’s Secret and I actually prefer them over normal cotton Fruits…and they’re hot.
The test is always the tight work out capri sweats…they can’t show lines OR ride up and these guys do neither. Seamless, baby..it’s the way to go!

Why all the hating on the thongs? They provide a controlled wedgie, one you don’t need to pick out. With a wedgie from a fuller cut, the fabric bunches up in the butt crack, and that is truly uncomfortable. I never have to pick my butt with a thong, and never any panty lines. They come in cotton as well.

HAHA! From your description it sounds to me like we are wearing the EXACT same undies (I can’t use the word panties. I HATE that word).
My weight keeps going back and forth between being pregnant and then not pregnant and then pregnant again, so buying the cotton Hanes is just cheaper right now. But if I EVER stop having kids (aww…) I’ll probably get the Body by Victoria’s Secret undies.
And I don’t even waste time asking hubby which undies he prefers. He doesn’t really notice them anyway. He would much prefer WHATEVER underwear I’m wearing to be off.

I have read that cotton is better for your nether regions. I have also read and seen on Oprah that thongs promote bad health, things such as UTI, bladder infection and other things that are not fun to go through.
I have a couple of go-to sexy undies when I want to feel a little bit sexier, but not once has my boyfriend said anything about them. As in, ooooh I like those sexy underwear. I do prefer my full bottomed bikins though because they don’t go up my butt and are way more comfortable to work in. Also, when I wear thongs with a dress my butt tends to eat my dress. What I mean is that the dress bunches up between my butt cheeks when I go from sitting to standing. How embarassing right? If you are like me , size 10 - 14+, and have a big booty, you have to be aware of those types of problems.
I am all for the cotton, full bottom undies and I used to only wear thongs.

Mine have stripes or flowers, or are solid colored. When my hubby and I went on our cruise- I decided to get wild and buy TWO new pairs of somewhat sexy underwear. STILL COTTON- but with a trim of lace on the top
WOW- pretty wild. My problem is- I have this “muffin top” that needs to stay tucked in. So al this low rise bull shit- just wont hang. (pun fully intended!)

Anyhow, yes I too noticed something was horribly wrong when my daughter and I had similar pannies. Also my BFF totally made fun of them every time she saw them. She bought me my first pair of sexies. They’re pure black lace. No thong! I now buy silky-lycra-like boy shorts with some lace around the edges, and other feel-good, look-good styles. LOOK @ Target, you can’t go wrong! I do still wear my cottons too, no need to give em up completely….Good luck with your transition into adult pannies!

I’m a thong kind of a girl. And, as gross as it sounds, once your crack “toughens up” you don’t even feel them in there anymore. They just take some getting used to, that’s all. I love hipster style panties with lace. Vanity Fair makes nice ones that don’t itch. Also in satiny material that I find does much better in the mid-rise low cut jeans than cotton. Hipsters are comfy but still hawt and sexy too. Plus, the hipster style is the perfect height for hiding my stretch marked stomach while not looking like grandma panties.
Lunanik is right about the thongs. If you want to wear them, it takes getting use to. But your butthole does toughen up. I wore them before having kids. I’ve never gone back though and don’t miss them AT ALL.

I wear the cotton, colored “boy cut” underdies. I say underdies because a good friend of mine had a daughter that called them that when she was little. “Under these…” she said. hee…

I love cotton panties! I don’t like the lines they leave in my dress pants, though. Any recommendations?? You MUST read my post from yesterday (friday)!! (it’s on this topic!)

77 comments?! How do you make the time?
I wear VS signature cotton panties-bikini with a few French cut leg thrown in for good measure. Totally the same as yours, but from Victoria’s Secret; which makes them much sexier.

Hi, floated in from Play Groupie Jennifer.
Great post! Currently I’m wearing some Fruit of the Loom Hipsters. They’re sort of boyish cut, with lace trim and a bow. They come in 3 packs and I’m not ashamed to admit that I <3 them. I also <3 the low rise bikins from Hanes that I had on yesterday. They had a pretty light pink stripe that happend to match my tank top. Not that anyone saw them yesterday, but it’s been a pleaser in the past…
I say go for comfy. I know the ones that Queen of the Shake - Shake speaks of and used to have a few pairs, but I think the laundry mat ate them because they disapeared…They were comfy (and reported to be sexy) too.
Good luck!

(still getting caught up…)
I like the new look! And I DO have cotton day-of-the-week panties that I wear on the correct days. Got them at Kohl’s eons ago… They’re actually some of my more comfy pairs!
I do wear mostly cotton panties of the Victoria’s Secret “Pink” variety, but I do have a handful of comfy thongs–yes, those two words can go together when you have the right style/size! Most of my cotton panties are the hipster style with loud stripes, spots, and/or saucy sayings on them. Makes them seem way less granny or preschooler-ish. Sort of.

Yup, I’m one of the “cotton underwear” crew… I remember when I bought this last batch (which includes some flowery prints) that I thought they reminded me of when I was a kid, but who cares - the cotton is comfortable and I’m really past worrying about underwear that looks sexy or matching bra/panty sets. If it fits and it’s comfortable and doesn’t give me panty lines I’m on (in) it. Funny thing about your daughter telling you that you and her both have the same underwear - my three-year-old said the same thing to me a few months ago but followed up with “but YOURS are big and MINE are small”… thank God she didn’t tell me I had Granny panties b/c I would have been scarred for life.

Cotton all the way, chica! Well. I can hardly speak. I’m wearing my cotton VS bikinis that I got shortly before dd was born in 2000. I think I just need to update the ones I have.
My best friend wears thongs and it pains me to even think about it. And woo-woo moments? Those are few and far between these days, lol. They wouldn’t last on me if I wore them anyway.

Go to Victoria’s Secret and buy Low Rise Hipsters. They are cotton but with really cute lace in two places. And…Most importantly…they’re sexy without climbing up your butt all day long. Very nice in my husband’s humble opinion. Good luck!

I just commented, but the internet ate it. Must be hungry…
Anyway…
Go to Victoria’s Secret and get yourself some Low Rise Hipsters. They are cotton, but they have two pieces of lace that make them cute. And…Most Importantly…They don’t climb up your butt all day long. In my husband’s humble opinion, they are sexy. Have fun!

Thongs all the way!! I wouldn’t have believed that if you’d told me a few years ago. Not having VPL (visible panty line) is a liberating thing! I started out by sleeping in them and gradually made them a during the day thing!

Away with the cotton panties and especially those awful thongs. I grew up in the sixties where those helthy backsides wore those full cut old fashion high waisted wide crotch double fabric silk panties. Wemon with great backsides wearing those full cut panties with the tiny elastics left something for the imagination. Especially those large noticable crotch seams. Yeah i know that I sound something like a freak, but those seem sexier and more feminine.
Passing the clothelines in the country you saw assorted colors of these wonderful briefs. And ladies!!! forget the boxers. It wouldn’t take much for your boyfriend or husband to pull down those full cut briefs.
Thanks

lThe soft delicate silky submissive fabric of full cut panties are for the ladies for sure. I watched the oprah winfrey show where these two fashion guru’s from Britian came to the oprah show and aired a show called what not to wear this summer where this little trusting mom met these two brits in the mall. After critizing her torn jeans which were too tight they turned her back to the camere and to her suprise they stuck their finger in the holes just above the back pocket and with a sudden tug in the holes they pulled tearing the jeans. The pockets disappeared revealing a soft silkie full cut pearl colored pantie brief. The continued attack on the jeans caused the delicate elastics at the legs to tuck itself on the underside of the jeans as the soft fabric writhed in every direction. Afterwards the two British guru’s led little mom who laughted hysterically back to the dressing room for a change. It was a good thing she had on full cut panties.

Since I missed this post the first time around and undies are a topic I feel strongly about… I had to comment now!
I abhor pantie lines. So, it’s either thongs (which are not something worn on the feet, those are flip flops) or Spanx… Thank the Good Lord for Spanx.
Seriously, have you ever looked at the rear end of the lady in front of you… really looked an saw—
a) obvious pantie lines, sometimes right where they belong, but still present… other times one line is creeping into some odd angle where it definitely doesn’t belong, or they BOTH are. Ew.
b) the shape, color, pattern, etc… of said undies through the wearers shorts, pants, skirt. This is just more information than we need.
c) a whole lot of bumpy skin because the pants are a light color and/or fitted. Come on now, we all now cellulite is a reality, just put some Spanx on under those khakis and all is right with the world.
