A couple of weeks ago my beloved blackberry decided to stop working. Following it’s spontaneous hiatus, I also misplaced the phone. I hate to admit when I adore material items. I’m serious. Materialism is so not what I am selling here. (Not that I’m selling anything, but you get my drift. or do you?)
It makes me feel all base and nasty inside. But really, I loved that phone. I tried not to like it.
I really did.
In the end, it won me over–which I suppose doesn’t matter because it is missing in action.
When I lost the phone, my SIM card was also gone. This means that every phone number I had in my address book was also gone. I wasn’t upset over the loss of the phone numbers that I actually call, because there are very few. However, I was mad over losing the numbers of all of the numbers for which I need to NOT answer the phone.
I know this sounds crazy. But losing all of the do not answer phone numbers in your phone is a BIG DEAL. Am I the only person that stores the numbers of annoying people as ‘DO NOT ANSWER!!!@#$”? Tell me I’m not the only person who thinks this is a big deal.
Because to me, when I have to now answer calls from the likes of 80’s Lady and other idiots of the like due to having to recensor my calls, I get so pissed.
Either way, I have a new phone again. I will be all dirty again and admit that it is a new version of the blackberry. I will also pretend I hate it.
***PS. I’m sorry for this entry. I’m not sure why I feel compelled to blog about this subject. I realize it’s sort of stupid. But it’d been one of those days. And seriously, you have got to try out storing numbers as ‘DO NOT ANSWER’. **

I really like the idea of the “Do Not Answer” list! Think I’m gonna try it! Thanks!

Hey, I like that idea! Of course I just get so excited that someone is calling ME that I would probably ignore the big flashing DO NOT ANSWER and pick it up anyhow. I’m lame like that.

I am SO sorry! I think I might die without my Blackberry. I really hate to admit that because before I had it I didn’t even have a cell phone. And the loss of the DNA numbers? So sad!
February 22nd, 2008 at 12:57 am
That’s hysterical. DNA numbers stored up, that’s too cute.
Ranting is good for you every now and then. Really, it is.

My thumb is always poised to hit the “ignore” button on my phone. Have those numbers in there is very necessary.

A good rant does a body good.
Also, I have that too. I don’t censor the name, but I just store every number so that I make it easy on myself. Right now I have a number that keeps popping up but I can dial it back. Probably a #$(&%# telemarketer.

i’d have to say that everyone who is in my phone, i talk to. but i do not answer the phone if i don’t feel like talking to them. like my sister, she calls 10 times a day. i’ll call her back at night and be like “i’m going to sleep.” haha. boo @ losing your blackberry. you should take a pic of it to show off your hate for materialistic things :).

When my DIL (we call her Bitsy) decided to wash Alex’s cell phone along with the rest of the laundry, it kinda sorta rendered the whole thing inoperable. BUT. Fear not, children. I, as the doting father, loving my children as much as I do and being willing to do almost anything to preserve their sanity (and, therefore, mine), had signed us all up with a service from US Cellular that backs up the phonebooks in the family cell phones. And he calls them DNA’s. I saw the ‘DNA - Mom’ entry in his phonebook. I didn’t tell Annie.

I have absolutely saved people as do not answer. When I met my boyfriend I told him about it and he has his ex saved as do not answer. It’s a great idea and fairly amusing when those people call.

I really figured I was the only one too! Wow - definitely not alone!
Those numbers also have their own special ring tone “silent.” Now I gotta figure out how to find a phone/service that regects the calls! That would be awesome!
Love your blog!
February 22nd, 2008 at 3:10 pm
That. Is. Awesome. That will work soooo much better than what I’ve been doing. I just get really bad reception whenever I get one of those calls, and have to hang up. I’m so changing the numbers to Do Not Answer.
February 22nd, 2008 at 4:52 pm
LOL, my husband tried telling me I was the only person that stores numbers so at a glance I know not to answer it. I have so many friends with the same names, Jen, Missy, Kate. Although mine don’t say do not answer they have *** in front of the name so I know its one of the pscyhos calling and to just let it go to voicemail. Glad to know I’m not alone.

Technology is so addictive, I can see why you like your phone so much. Sorry that you lost it. I go ballistic when I lose stuff. Luckily it doesn’t happen very often. I couldn’t live without my call display for the very reason you outlined. I could unknowingly answer calls that I wouldn’t be if I knew beforehand who was calling (did that make sense?!). So ya I totally understand the Do Not Answer thing.

My phone is set up to ring ’silent’ when certain people call. It is wonderful. I don’t even hear the phone ringing. It is nice to call those people back on my time, after mental preparation after they deem the call is important enough to leave a voice mail.
