I Get it From My Mama

My phone was continuously ringing just moments ago. I couldn’t get to it in time, and the person on the other line just kept calling and calling. When this happens, like any person thinks (or at least me), I decided to rush to find my phone, because Hello? It had to be an emergency or something. What kind of person just calls you a few times in a row for recreation?
So I find my phone, and look at my missed calls. It was my mother.
I return her call swiftly, under the false impression that perhaps a mini-apocalypse has occurred in her neck of the woods. And the phone call went a little something like this:
Me: Mom, Mom are you alright?
Her: Yes. Can’t I call you?
Me: That many times in a row?
Her: Well, I had an important question.
Me: Ask…
Her: Are you watching American Idol?
Me: Are you serious? That was your serious question? If I’m watching American Idol?
Her: Oh, stuff it! I just found this show. They have all these bad people come on and sing for a few weeks. I love this. They–ARE–HORRIBLE!Did you see this girl last week? She was MAD. (Understatement of the year, by the way).
Me: I’m still missing which part of this was serious?
Her: Ah, to hell with you. It’s funny, you see. *insert long sigh* You don’t understand.
Me: No…no..I don’t understand. at. all.
Her: you joy-kill.
I love my mom.

EDIT: For those of you concerned about our dear Gary, she is now successfully thawed.

ROFL!!!!! Can I please tell you that I nearly had the IDENTICAL phone call from my mother!?!?! Woman has the nerve to call from her cell phone (only used for emergencies) and ask if I was watching AI……what is this world coming to

Oh my MIL does this too… calls and calls even leaves messages on the answering machine that makes it sound like someone is near death, then when you finally speak to her she just wants to know if you will come for dinner!?!?!? Drives me nuts!

She reminds me of my MIL. Except for she usually makes a false pretense for calling and then gets into the less-important-but-really-needs-to-tell-me stuff.

She sounds like my mom! Except I love it- my whole family is like that. We’re so popculture crazy. I’d be upset if my brother didn’t call to tell me about a funny show I may be missing.

It went like this:
Me: Hi, Al. How Ya’ doin’?
Al: Dad, this is the 4th time you’ve called me today.
Me: Yeah, so? You counting?
Al: Yes, I am. You don’t call Louie like this. You don’t call Zach like this.
Me: Louie is sleeping and Zach is in school.
Al: Louis is sleeping because he stayed out all night and you can’t call Zach cause he’s in school so you call me.
Me: Well … I know you just started this new job and I just want to make sure everything is goin’ okay.
Al: Everything is fine Dad. Now let me get back to work.
Me: Okay (deep disappointment in voice). Do you need anything?
Al: No, I’m fine.
Me: I’ll talk to you later.
Al: Well … Lynn and I are going out later.
Me: Okay, tomorrow, then. Love you.
Al: Love you, too, Dad. Bye.
He does love me. And I love him. He’s my son. And I can call him anytime I want.

I can so relate tothis post!!!! Especailly since my mom and I talk every day - and then she will call me a second or a thrid or a forth for “important issues” and well, the dialogue pretty much follows the script you wrote!

i talk to my mom more than 30 times a day, i’m not kidding. she’s like my best friend though. so, she’ll call to be like:
mom: “hello, shew, what are you doing right now?”
me: “nothing, just watching t.v. and playing with the dogs.”
mom: “i’m bored and there isn’t anything on t.v. i guess i’m going to get off here and cook dinner. bye.”
and that will be it. that’s our conversation. but, we have that conversation more than once a day. hahah. i love my mom.
but, on the other hand, my mom has never done what your mom did and i find it hilarious! lolol.
