Labor Time=Big Mac Time
- January 13th, 2008 5:58 pm
One time, while patiently waiting in line for my food at a fast food restaurant, I heard a bout of commotion coming from behind the register, toward the drive-thru window. All I heard was, “YOU WANT WHAT? YOU ARE?”.
My first reaction was great! this place WOULD get robbed when I was in here.
(As if I was some exemption to robberies and my presence was enough to ward off thieves.)
However, it turned out the fast food restaurant was not being robbed(maybe I do ward off thieves)…
Instead, the commotion was because a lady IN LABOR was going through the drive-thru demanding a cheeseburger. That’s right–IN LABOR. You read that correctly.
I will bless you with the fact that she was not driving. Her mother was.
You could hear the girl screaming for the hamburger as if the fast food minions were in opposition to giving it to her. “GIVE ME MY DAMN BIG MAC!” I didn’t understand the screaming, because it’s not like the minions are against providing fast food to people in labor.
On to the big picture, while this particular fast food joint was a stone’s throw away from the hospital–my last thought when I started having contractions was, “Damn, i want a big mac!”.
Between you and I, in the midst of contractions my mind was more focused on the many violent atrocities I could inflict on the man who did this to me. I had visions of punching bags and Samurai swords–not of big macs. Now, yelling GIVE ME MY DAMN SAMURAI SWORD! would have made lots more sense.
So what about you? If you have children, were you craving a hamburger while in labor? OR were you craving a Samurai Sword ( i know you were). If you don’t have children, but plan to, which choice is more likely for you. ( i know it’s the weapon, and you do too). If you do not plan to have children at all, which do you prefer on a daily basis? ![]()

I made my husband get me a bagel w/ cream cheese and a big coffee (from Tim Horton’s) before we went to the hospital with David (#4). I was not screwing myself out of eating, but I was not going to anything greasy. I shat on a nurse once (with #2, no pun intended) and that was one too many times!
Can we exchange Link Love.. I really love your blog!

LMAO!!! Oh I’m so guilty of this. My water broke at home, and I knew i would be banned from food and water all throughout labor. On the way to the hospital, with contractions every 7-8 minutes, I demanded a detour to pick up Panda express for some orange chicken and fried rice!!!! But yest,….when hubby ate a pizza in my labor room at 7cm’s, a SAMURAI SWORD would have been a better option to buy on the way

I’ve never been in labour, nor god willing will I ever be, but it does seem rather painful. I can’t imagine wanting food at a time like that, somehow.

HAHAH. I cannot imagine. You know it would’ve served her right if she had to get the c-section and had crazy vomit issues for the full tummy.
Me? Um, Actually I hesitate to say it but I was induced and only felt a few before the drug lords saved me. The ones I did feel? I was screaming about the pain and give me drugs. As much as a Big Mac sounds tasty? I wanted pain relief stat.
A, you’re soo funny. You don’t have to ask about blogrolling lil ol me. Just do it. And, thanks, what wonderful manners.

I was induced with both, so I don’t have the experience of waiting until labor started. But my OB was nice enough to tell me to eat a light breakfast….I don’t consider a Big Mac ‘light’…but that is kind of funny!
BTW, that rabbit is only around $40. It would make a great birthday gift! I say go for it.

It must have been her first baby. Little did she know she’d be puking it back up during labor.

I had two c-sections, one emergency and one scheduled. I didn’t have time to worry about cheeseburgers. However, my sister had her husband stop on the way to the hospital so she could get a fish sandwich.

my first pregnancy…i had a scheduled c-section so…i wasn’t allowed to eat anything and then, when it’s done…you don’t want to eat anything.
my 2nd two…my water exploded…yes, EXPLODED…so, i was too busy trying to keep my insides from flowing out with the amniotic fluid, to want to eat anything.

With my first I was induced so I knew I was not allowed to eat.. but with my second I was about to eat a LARGE bowl of mac and cheese when my doc called again and said I had to be induced.. I was screwed out of last fatting meals both times..

Actually, I’m praying that the alcohol voices of unreason will leave me alone once and for all. I use to enjoy having a drink (at the end of the day with my man, that is) more than anything. We had a blast with our martinis. But, now, I am looking for a new love, because I think it made me a little chubby
Great post!

I’m pretty sure I will be asking for a cheeseburger with a side of samari sword.

I most definitely craved food. With my first I got a huge chilli cheesedog…it lasted me a couple hours and then I was starving again; of course, they allowed me nothing for the next 13 hours. With my second, I had an induction and was only allowed a small yogurt…what I woudl have done for a big mac!
I only once felt the urge for a weapon while in labor but luckily for my hubby, it passed quickly.

LOL!! I think I would have yelled for the sword. Although with my third (I have four) I just knew I wanted to chow down since I had been deprived of food the first two times. So I planned my slow departure to the hospital and fixed a little snack mid labor… BUT I couldn’t eat it. Maybe that lady had the same idea, but I’d be surprised if she felt like eating it once she had it.

My water broke early for all three…and during the time with my first we established a routine - Red Lobster! yep, for the first 2 I had reb Lobster while in labour!!! The third there was no time, due to complications found while in womb we went straight to hospital and had no time…but she was born Feb and on Feb 14 hubby and new baby went to Reb Lobster for valintine’s day!!!!
i completely forgot about that till I read about the big mac attack…though I was not out of control!!! Maybe I will write about that for a post, as I have no real topics in my head!!!
thanks for sharing!
