Let’s Take it Outside (a post about Addiction)

  • December 30th, 2007 5:21 pm

When I was younger, I often had the nerve to drink the last cold Diet Pepsi in the refrigerator, even though at the time I didn’t like the taste of it. My mother, an avid Diet Pepsi drinker, would be quite irate when she discovered this. I didn’t really realize why it was such a big deal. But now, I’d fight a man over the last Diet Pepsi in my fridge. We would have to “take it outside” as they say in the movies when people are about to roll. I’d stomp a person over the last, cold Diet Pepsi.

Hi, I’m Amanda. I’m a Diet Pepsi Addict. I’ll openly admit that my love for Diet Pepsi is likely out of control. Something about the full flavor and the way the carbonation blends with the taste is very enticing. And oh man, how about when it’s fresh out of the fountain? Wow!

But I must admit that lately I have shamefully been stepping out on Diet Pepsi with it’s sassy, citrusy sister.

You see, I have a new flame, ice cold Mt. Dew.

Yes, calorie rampant, pseudo-citrus enhanced Mt. Dew. Back in the day, when I was all svelte and drank non-diet pop because the calories had not yet found a way to stick to my thighs and hips, I was a Dr. Pepper gal. I was never all that into Mt. Dew. And lately, while I have been stepping out on Diet Pepsi with it, the after taste is still quiet nasty.

But you see, last week during the 986 holiday dinners I was forced happy to attend, someone had lots of Mt. Dew. It was the only option to drink. However, being a wonderful guest, I gladly drank it. And I have been doomed since then.

If I see an ad for it, I crave it. I’ve been sneaking it all week. It’s terrible. Just terrible. My body can’t handle this. The calories all congregate like the evil minions of the Fat King and cling to various parts of my body. And laugh at me. Those little jokesters!

So now, as I am drinking my last ever fresh out the fountain Mt. Dew, I have to go back to my old flame, Diet Pepsi (which I plan to start drinking in moderation).

Speaking of moderation, I wish they had a patch for Diet Pepsi. Maybe the Pepsi corporation should sell them, and they would have the logo on it. Ya never know.

Addiction, it’s a bitch.

Hi, and I feel your pain!! I am a Starbucks Mocha Frapppuccino addict. Not vanilla. Not coffee, but Mocha. It started on a roadtrip with oldest DD when we went to look at colleges in NH. Not too many places to make pit stops, but found this to keep me going. That was 6 years ago.
    Enjoying your posts! Too Funny!

I know what you mean. I’m a Diet Coke addict. If I go a day and a half without one, I get headaches. Have tried switching to ice tea or Diet Dr Pepper, but it’s not the same.

I don’t like soda now, but I did once upon a time. I was addicted to Pepsi and Mt. Dew. I would have horrible withdrawals from the caffiene, such as headaches. Plus, it didn’t help with my anxiety. I’m a water lover now :). Hopefully you’ll overcome your addiction. They should have a D.C.A. (Diet Cokes Anonymous) Group.

Hi, I just came across this blog post and had to chime in… I totally understand! I’m a HUGE Diet Pepsi addict. I literally cannot get enough. I try to moderate myself most dates, but if I could I would drink at least 10 cans of Diet Pepsi a day (ice cold, of course!). I’m very persnickety about it, too…it must be 1) in a can; 2) ice cold; 3) drank immediately after opening. Ever notice that Diet Pepsi goes flat really fast?
