The Ho Bath

  • August 24th, 2008 3:30 pm

The Ho Bath. I realize that all of you may not have heard of it, or perhaps you did hear of it, but with a more dignified name. I first learned of the ho bath at cheerleading camp of all places. One of the coaches announced that if for some reason you had an aversion to showering in large public showers, then you should at least consider a ho bath.

Still puzzled? Confused?

There’s a reason you may not have heard of it. A lot of people don’t talk about the ho bath. They probably never will. It’s like the dirty step sister of regular baths. Butthey do it, have done it, or will perform the ho bath at some point. You might have done it and may not even know about it.

Finally, a ho bath is when instead of bathing regularly a person man or woman just washes their face, armpits, and nethers (in that order, hopefully) with a wash cloth, sponge, or even baby wipes. You don’t have to particular. After it all, it is a ho bath.

A ho bath is basically the last resort when a shower or bath is usually not available or unwanted.  Like if you were camping, you might have to take a ho bath. Heck, there are all sorts of situations when you might feel like taking a ho bath, particularly if you are ill and don’t feel like showering.

Either way, all hail to the ho bath.

*snort* My husband has spent 29 months deployed in Iraq. (No, not consecutively, thank goodness!) I’ve lost count of the number of unscented baby wipes I have sent him for this very purpose. I’ve always called it the “deployed shower”, but “ho bath” it is from now on!

Okay…hee.. we always called them “bird baths.” “Go take a bird bath,” my mother would say if it was late and I was half asleep. But, one time, we stopped off at this rest area to use the bathroom. My mom went in first and then casually walked back out. “Go ahead and go on in there, Rene’,” she said. So I did, thinking that she had forgotten to tell my dad something. Oh no, she had sent me right into a hooker’s shower. That woman was standing naked as a jay bird under the hand dryer. *blank stare* I was like, “MOM!” Of course, she was standing outside doubled over in laughter. I’m just glad I missed the “bathing” part.
