My mood..or yours?

It’s interesting how easy it is to misinterpret something that someone says on the internet or in any written form of language.  After all, when you read something that someone else has written, whether it be a message, email, comment, etc., you are the person reading it.   So, it’s easy to read it in a tone that doesn’t necessarily carry the connotation the writer intended.

Personally, this has always been quite a hurdle.  For instance, if you’re in a horrible mood it’s very easy to read something someone else has written in your own horrible mood voice and take it in, in a totally different nature than intended.   It’s easy to alter someone’s word and/or the meaning of them when the only true spin is the one you interpret yourself.

I guess that’s my only beef with blogging.  I could type, “That’s great”.  And depending on the person reading it would all be processed a different way:sarcastically, happily, angrily, etc.  After I type the words, it’s all up to you to read them correctly.  I wonder how often false interpretation happens.  More often, than not one would think.

No matter how well written you may be or how well-voiced the writing you produce is– after it’s out there for others to read it’s  completely out of your hands.  It makes the power of true conversation that much stronger.  After all, it’s hard to misinterpret the words coming out of someone’s mouth when you can hear the tone in their voice.  I’ve always paid a lot of attention to voice tone.  I think it reveals way more than the actual words being delivered.

Just something to think about. :)
